What is the longest you have spent going through security at the airport? What if you could cut it down to less than five minutes with a biometric card.

In 2005 the US Government instituted the voluntary Registered Traveler Pilot Program. This program was a sort of clearance for travelers. Travelers who were cleared were able to cut through lines with a swipe of a card and a scan of their iris or fingerprint. But how do you get the card?

FLO (Fast Lane Option) is a program that allows airline travelers to forgo all the security lines at the airport. With this card a traveler would be screened and on the way within 3 minutes . They are an approved provider of TSA.

"FLO was born out of a need for customer service and a predictable airport experience where a traveler can always have a five minute or less airport security experience", according to Fred Fischer, Senior VP of Sales for FLO.

Enrolling is a really simple process. To save time an enrollee should start the enrollment process online at http://www.flocard.com/ where you can get a registration number before you see the FLO agent to finish up the process. You are required to see a FLO agent in person, so they can verify all the information. Currently FLO has 4 locations around the country where you can do it in person. Flo will register at a business location if they have 50 or more people that need to be registered.

Items you will need:

1. two forms of ID (Passport, Drivers License, or Birth Certificate)
2. $100 fee
3. Residential addresses for the past 5 years
4. Social Security Number
4. Green Card (if applicable)

What FLO does:
1. Take picture
2. Scan your fingerprints.
3. Take iris scan
4. Submit materials to TSA for background screening

Upon approval, you will receive your card in about 2-3 weeks. It is ready for use upon receipt. At the airport, you just look for the sign that says registered user, put your card in, and confirm your identity with your fingerprint or iris.

By using Biometrics, there is no chance that someone can steal and use your card. The FLO card offers more benefits than the speedy airport entry. Depending on the program you choose, you can have your SSN and credit card monitored. They also have arranged for several discounts for cardholders.

Business travelers and frequent flyers will find this program most useful and affordable.
The cost of this useful tool starts at $100, which is renewable yearly. The biometrics is good for 5 years.

What is the TSA looking for?
They are looking to make sure that you do not pose a threat.
The TSA recommends you have more than one Registered Traveler card since each carrys expanded options for their members and the cards are accepted in various airports.

Do I need the Card?
If you make 5 or more flights per year, getting registered with FLO will save you time in the long run.

FLO has become a leader in the travel world by providing travelers something useful that eliminates wasted time in security lines in an airport and makes travel easier .
