If you're in LA and wanting to see celebrities, get a sense of film history, and perhaps see movies being shot (without breaking the bank), try these spots out.
Nice pic of Hollywood without the smog.
Los Angeles Film Spots
1. Arclight Cinemas – Hollywood (Sunset & Vine). This is arguably the best movie theater in town. It plays host to many red carpet premieres where you can spot your favorite star, or you can attend one of their many special events and AFI screenings (often with special guest Q&A).
2. New Beverly Cinema – West Hollywood (Beverly Blvd). Everyday you can catch a double feature of rare and classic movies (as well as Grindhouse films) and see your favorite stars. It’s not uncommon to see the likes of Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, or Edgar Wright watching their favorite prints.
3. Burger 90210 – South Beverly Drive (Beverly Hills). Located just south of the high end retail stores on Rodeo Drive . You can enjoy a great meal for a decent price and maybe see a couple celebs scarfing down on a giant burger.
4. Joan’s on 3rd – West Hollywood (3rd Street). This is a nice little café on Beverly Blvd in West Hollywood , and is one of Jake Gyllenhaal’s favorite spots.
5. The Grove – Beverly & Fairfax. This is a hot outdoor shopping complex in West Hollywood . Just spend a day there and you’re almost guaranteed to spot at least one, if not a handful of celebs.
6. Urth Caffé – With three locations across Los Angeles , there is a reason it’s a popular shooting location for HBO’s Entourage, as it is a hot spot for a variety of celebs.
7. The Dresden Room – Los Feliz ( Vermont Ave ) As made famous by the movie SWINGERS, this friendly locale in Los Feliz is not only a bit of Hollywood history, but it’s still occasionally visited by Vince Vaughn himself.
8. Mulberry Street Pizza – Beverly Hills (North Canon Drive). This is as close as you can get to a New York City slice in Los Angeles . Any celeb craving a New York pizza comes here.
9. If you’re looking to find some people actually shooting movies, that could become a bit tricky. If you’re looking to avoid the studio tours, you can often find film crews up and down Beverly Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Fairfax Avenue . But if you’re looking for the studio atmosphere and want to bypass the overdone Universal tour, try Warner Brothers and Paramount .
