How to use a squatter toilet. (Because I've had to explain this quite a few times...)

Prepare to Squat!

Prepare to Squat!

In Kochkor, as in most rural areas of Kyrgyzstan, you will find that most homes lack indoor plumbing. Be prepared to squat in an outhouse!

Whether you call it an Asian toilet, a squatter, or a squatty-potty... whether it's a porcelain basin in Korea or a pit-squat outhouse in Siberia, knowing how to use one of these toilets is essential for those travelling off the beaten path. It's actually quite simple, once you get the hang of it.

1. Don't take your pants off. Simply pull them down to just above your knees.

2. Place your feet on either side of the hole/basin.

3. Keep your feet flat on the ground and squat.

4. Do your business.

Seriously folks, it's that easy.
