I saw these two crippled boys in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and watched their demeanors transform when they saw themselves differently.
When these two crippled boys saw the picture of themselves smiling, their faces lit up infinitely more. I wish I had a picture of their faces then, but that is when they were looking at themselves on the LCD.
How are we defined by others? These two boys were so used to being defined by their twisted bodies that I think they forgot to let their real selves shine through. When I asked them to smile, the look on their faces was priceless as they were valued for their personalities instead. Perhaps they can continue to be a lesson for us all.
