The Atacama Desert in Chile has a spectacular mix of colors... There are also a few Lagunas, very unusual lakes. This one for example, is filled with salt. The margins are white, with just a thinlayer of water over the salt...
The minimalist and colourful landscapes of the Atacama desert in Chile drifted me to a revigorating meditative state of mind...
The high alpine road of the Großglockner takes us straight through and along the highest peaks (ranging from 3000 to 3798 meters high) of the eastern alpes.
We crossed its 31km from south to north with really bad weather: fog, dark clouds, rain, cold and even snow in the end of May! We couldn't see anything. The next day, though, the sky was great. The Carnival of Oruro is the main cultural festival in Bolivia. For a few days, the city is crowded with people coming from all parts of Bolivia and a few foreigners as well.
The tradition comes from pre-spanish-colonization times and the andean culture evidently plays a major role. However, many of its elements were "christianized" by the spanish people.
This foto represents this curious and diverse mix - perhaps domination? - of cultures. The christian cross oversees the carnival parade in the streets of Oruro.
One of largest and most spectacular waterfall systems in the world is in the Argentine-Brasilian binational park "Cataratas do Iguaçu | Cataratas del Iguazu | Iguazu Falls". There are 275 waterfalls up to 82 meters in height!
The Brasilian side offers more panoramic views, in general, while the Argentine side allows us to come closer, very close, to many of the waterfalls.
This photo was taken in the Argentine side.
