The Batsto Gristmill was built in 1828 by Ironmaster Jesse Richards. This three-story structure situated on the site of an earlier mill. Originally operated with a water wheel, water from a nearby lake was directed to the mill through a mill race that delivered water to the water wheel. The weight of the water caused the wheel to turn, providing the sole source of power for the gearing that ran the interior machinery.
Even in the winter the jersey shore still has some of the most beautiful sunsets.
If you look closely you can see the rope hanging from the tree that Mr. Demsey hung himself from.
My friend read about this place in the weird New Jersey book. It sounded cool so we decided to check it out. The story goes that the husband came home and shot his wife and children, killing them all. After the gun shots he went down to the corner and hung himself with a rope from a tree( see the picture of the tree with the rope). The house still remains in the family of the wife today, no ones knows why they don't sell it, but the woods has taken it back.
My sister, my friend Caitlin, and I were driving aroud aimlessly one night and we saw these from the bridge and we could not pass it up. In Sandy Hook these two amazing lighthouses are surrounded by a cute little town and are at the top of a great big hill.
Every night in the summer you can see numerous sale boats heading home. The lighthouse is a halfway home mark, reminding you of your day in the ocean. If you are coming to the shore for a vacation I highly recommend you watch a sunset and sunrise by the inlet, it is a sight you will never forget..
Every summer the jersey shore is home to many classic car shows. Every monday night at JB's diner there is a cruise night that starts with everyone eating and ends with fun, laughter, and beautiful cars...
Another shot of the once well kept Wheelhouse in South Seaside...
