A full day of thrill seeking calls for something filling... You can find classic park fare at the Character Cafe where you may find an occassional Looney Tunes character. This building is one of the originals from the opening in 1974 - although at the time it was know as the "Yum Yum Palace!" (I guess our sensibilities are a bit different today when it come to names...)
Above the Cafe is the Sky Ride... This is the original cable ride from the 1964-1965 World's Fair in New York City. It's a great place to take in all the sites and decide where to land next.
When you're this close to NYC, Nathan's can't be too far. Fortunately for the lover of great hot dogs, Nathan's can be found in the Boardwalk section of Great Adventure.
Built in 1989, the Great American Screem Machine used to be Great Adventure's tallest and fastest, boasting 7 loops. It still packs a wallop!
This is a view of El Toro from the backside as the sun starts to set on Great Adventure.
For the Daredevil's Dive, here's the concept... Strap you onto the end of a cable, hoist you and a friend to 140 feet and then... drop you! GULP!! Haven't done it myself - not sure I ever will. But what a view to see someone flying over your head as you stand in amazement on terra firma. It costs extra for the thrill. Can't say I've ever seen a time when there wasn't a line. Go figure!
This is the second drop on El Toro, the world's highest and fastest wooden roller coaster (2008). Up until this year it also claimed the steepest drop on a wooden coaster. Hold on, as it is also know for great air time as you feel yourself lifting from your seat. Coaster Fanatics currently rate this as the #1 coaster in the country.
This is the down part of the track on Kingda Ka, the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster. Nothing quite like reaccelerating to 128 mph after reaching a peek of 456 feet.
When Great Adventure opened in 1974, it was all about being the biggest and the best. Today, as the park has become known for its roller coasters, it is only fitting that it has the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world - Kingda Ka! Reaching a top speed of 128 mph and a top height of 456 feet, it is a thrill ride that brings a whole new dimension to roller coasters. While most riders of roller coasters will tell you of the drop, on Kinda Ka, the most notable experience is the trip to the top...
As of this summer, the carousel room at the Casino in Asbury Park, New Jersey is showing signs of rennovation progress. It is exciting to see as the farmers market returns. From some of the earlier images I caught of this location, it is fantastic to see the recent developments...
Morning dining on the Atlantic Ocean in the town of Avon-by-the-Sea can be a real treat at the Avon Pavillion. The earlier the better to avoid the summer crowds... But those with the staying power, later breakfast, lunch and dinner are available...
