Cocktail Bar, Sheraton Four Points, Beirut

Trendy and modern, the Sheraton Four Point in Le Verdun, Beirut, is centrally located. A very well kept and maintained hotel, with friendly staff and great service.

Chilling out with the locals!

Chilling out with the locals!

Even magazines get tired after a long day travelling on the road and need to chill out and relax. Johanna Stigter's hardworking copy of Issue 3 of Everywhere Magazine was last seen socialising with the 'locals' at the cocktail bar of the Sheraton Four Points in Beirut.

ABC Mall, Beirut

ABC Mall, Beirut

One of the great things, amongst many others in Beirut, is the fantastic shopping. Not only did I enjoy browsing through the trendy shops in this mall, but also admire the modern architectural design in which it is built.

Old fort at Saida, Lebanon

Old fort at Saida, Lebanon

This beautiful old fort graces the sea front of Saida in Lebanon. You have to walk over the bridge to get to it. A custodian will take you round the different rooms and all the way up to the roof near the flag where you can take some nice shots of the little inlet. The architectural features inside are pretty impressive. It even used to have 2 steam baths, one for men and one for women. The canons that used to protect the fort are now laying inside the courtyard. I'd like to return to this scene on a stormy day to capture it in a more dramatic perspective.

Everywhere meets UN Peacekeepers

Everywhere meets UN Peacekeepers

And the journey continues. My issue 2 of Everywhere Magazine has so far clocked in hundreds of kilometres by plane, car and on foot. I can't say it was easy lugging my heavy Nikon D300 with 3 lenses, accsessories and this famous copy of issue 2, but with the help of my driver Ali, I managed to get round. In fact I caught Ali browsing through it a couple of times while I was out of the car snapping at this and that on the road.

I met these UN Peacekeepers, hailing from Indonesia, who are based in Tyre, Lebanon in the Grotto of Cana of Bible fame. It was stifling hot and there I was going down the path towards the grotto carrying the aforementioned paraphenalia. You have to know (a small confession here) that even while travelling I never go out without my hair fashionably styled by a local hairdresser or without make up. So I guess this petite well groomed woman laden like a pack donkey and clutching a magazine in the grotto must have made some impression on them. I was soon handed about 6 cameras to take group photos. Unable to clutch the magazine and snap away, I gave it to one of them to hold. This soon aroused interest and they gathered round to browse through it. Other Peacekeepers were happily snapping away at this scene too so this pic would have made it to Indonesia to their family members.

My last impression at Cana was this group of Peacekeepers waving me and my copy of Everywhere goodbye and a safe journey to my next destination. And the journey goes on.........

Everywhere is everywhere!

Everywhere is everywhere!

Women browsing through my copy of Issue 3 of Everywhere Magazine at the entrance of the old souk in Byblos, Lebanon. Yes, I'm taking Everywhere everywhere!!!! Would you go anywhere without your Everywhere!

I love those signs!

I love those signs!

On my way overland from Jordan to Syria, my driver stopped me at this shop to change money. It always makes me smile to look at the wording on that sign. There is no letter 'P' in the Arabic language so it is replaced with a 'B' and sometimes 'F'.

Fire!

Fire!

A soldier in period costume fires a replica musket. The smell of gunpower and the original setting helps the immagination go back to the times of pirates and invaders. Thanks to the work of National Trusts worldwide, historical buildings are carefully restored for the enjoyment of the present and future generations.

Marching!

Marching!
