The oldest leather tannery in the world should not be missed. When approaching the tannery the smell is unmistakable. The balcony overlooks dozens of stone vessels filled with natural dyes. The hides of sheep and goats are first soaked in diluted acidic pigeon excrement and then transferred to other vessels containing vegetable dyes such as henna, saffron and mint. When the dying process has been completed the hides are dried on the roofs of the Medina.
Beautiful example of Ksista.
The process of Ksista begins with the spreading of a mixture of sand, asbestos and cement on the walls of the house. This is then covered with a type of plaster. When it dries, patterns are drawn onto the outer layer and then scratched revealing the darker layers beneath.

Be it a quiet perspective on nature, viewing the profound beauty of the human form, or the endless expression of human creativity found in everyday objects, art, and architecture, the world surrounds us. My photography attempts to slow, to capture the unnoticed, to preserve moments for quiet viewing.
