We stopped at the Great Salt Lake on our road trip from Boulder to Seattle. Shannah was coming back from a month away at pastry school where she had gone at my assertion that she needed to be more of a citizen of the world. She had never lived anywhere but Seattle. And she loved her hometown dearly. But she loved me enough to take the advice seriously and to put her job at a Seattle hedge firm on hold to try this. It wasn't easy for her but she did it. And this moment for me captures that experience.
