We're supposed to be on a trail?

We're supposed to be on a trail?

After spending most of a week in our tents watching rainstorms pass thru we decided to bail out of the Southern Picketts in the North Cascades NP. Our choices were slim - a long 2 day traverse involving several rock faces, or the quick route - a descent of 4,000' thru Devil's Club, downed timber and other underbrush. The climax was a walk across a mass of slide alder - navigating from branch to branch about 10' off the ground.

Mountain goats, licking salt from climber's pack, Gladys Pass, Olympic National Park,Washington. While we climbed Cruiser on a cross country trip thru the Olympics, some local goats adopted us - they licked the salt from our packs, fought over & split a pair of wool pants, then followed us the rest of the day. They generously let us break trail across steep snow slopes, then spent the night licking our tent. As we groggily prepared to leave the next morning, they were peacefully napping some yards away.
