Ants on Uluru

Ants on Uluru

A visit to the massive rock formation of Uluru is a standard stop for those travelers doing the Sydney, Rock, and Reef tour of Australia. We were told that the Aboriginal word for tourists is the same as their word for ants. Watching tourists scale the sacred sides of Uluru, which the Aboriginals specifically ask visitors NOT to do, it's easy to see why.

Rainbow over Sydney Opera House

Rainbow over Sydney Opera House

It was our last night in Australia after a fantastic three-week trip. As we enjoyed our last sips of Aussie beer at the Opera Bar in Sydney, we noticed that the sunset had brought with it a glorious rainbow over the Sydney Opera House. The orange glow of the Opera House and the colorful rainbow was a perfect cap to our vacation.

Doo Lough

Doo Lough

Driving through County Mayo on Ireland's west coast, we came across one of the most serene places I've ever seen. Rugged green mountains rise above the dark blue lake. A ribbon of road skirts around the water. The only sounds are the wind and the bleating of sheep grazing on the hillside. Doo Lough is also a poignant place. The Celtic cross commemorates hundreds of Irish Famine victims who died on the road through this valley trying to get relief from their terrible plight. How can a place of such beauty have been a place of such suffering?
