I drove out East from Waikiki in our gigantic rental vehicle filled with my American girl friends and our new foreign boy friends whom we met at our hostel. On a tip from the hostel manager, we went in search of a shrimp shack for lunch on our way to the North Shore. Success was declared when we found a tasty shrimp shack (actually a permanently parked van) on the side of the road. I went with the garlic shrimp and left nothing on my plate.
The entrance to the Dole Pineapple Plantation on Oahu. It's over the top touristy, but so enjoyable.
I don't care what anyone says. This is the best.
turkey (nitrate free), pesto, organic cheddar, may, mayo, fire roasted tomatoes (i think), a bit of lettuce all smushed between the best ciabatta bread ever made on the planet.
The yummiest bakery this side of the Mississippi. A must visit for breakfast or a quick lunch while in Bend.
It was 90 degrees out, but there was still several feet of snow on top of Black Butte, so my friend and I thought it appropriate to build a snowman. Not a bad place to be on such a hot day in the Cascades. Mt. Jefferson is on the left and Mt. Hood is way off in the distance on the right.
One of the many aisles of books in the Sci-fi section of Powell's. There are three glorious floors of books to wander and explore at Powell's.
The beer is good and so is the pizza at Laurelwood Pizza Company, a part of the Laurelwood Brewing family.
The NW Hostel is in a great, cheap stay in Portland. Superb location, beautiful historic neighborhood with many Victorian style houses. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with getting people to the sights. Two large kitchens and free breakfast. What more could you ask for?
I went for the New York Cheese cake with raspberry sauce on the side and had no regrets. I suspect, any choice on desserts at Papa Haydn's is going to be a good one.
People enjoying their breakfast at Tin Shed Garden Cafe. About a third of the people brought their dogs with on their morning breakfast journey. Dogs seem to make a great conversation piece over a meal.
