Makapuu Point Lighthouse

Makapuu Point Lighthouse

The Makapuu Point Lighthouse was installed in 1909 at the Eastern end of the Oahu Island.

Take an early morning drive out of Honolulu along Highway 72 (Kalanianaole Hwy) east past Kaloko Beach. Find some parking along the side of the road and hike out to the viewpoint above the lighthouse before the sunrise. It's an easy short 15 to 20 minute hike with a light incline.

Once you are there, you will be treated to a spectacular view... and if you are lucky, you might even see some whales passing by...

The Central Branch was designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and completed in 2004.

"The dramatic glass and steel structure at 1000 Fourth Ave. in the heart of downtown Seattle was chosen to make the building open and translucent, according to Rem Koolhaas of OMA, the Dutch architectural firm that designed the building in a joint venture with LMN Architects of Seattle. Passersby on the street will be able to look in and see activity on every floor of the library."
