Garret’s travelogue

Local Market

Local Market

We walked into the local town market. It was amazing to see the bags of grain being bought and sold, along with a lot of other types of whole foods. Not a processed bite to eat anywhere in sight. A nice break from a lot the fast food that is seen everywhere else.

Local Friends

Local Friends

This girls worked at the hut where we stayed. They invited us out to a night at the local Videoke. Which is an upgrade to Karaoke, basically a juke box with a screen that has thousands and thousands of songs. It was outside of a little shop that sold all the necessities. A great addition is the fact the Filipinos have amazing singing voices.

The Loboc River

The Loboc River

This was this beautiful emerald green river, that passed through the jungle. It was amazing, there were people walking along the sides that you could more hear and feel than see. We paddled this canoe up the river to a waterfall.

This woman was passing by us on the street, and just had this presence that could be felt. I asked her if I could take a picture and she flashed her one tooth smile and just sort of posed. It was a great moment!

The pig man

The pig man

Another great local treat in the Phillipines is lechon baboy. It is roasted pig, with soy sauce and sugar. The skin is crunchy and the meat is juicy. We hung out with this man and his family for about an hour as he roasted this pig.

THE JEEPNEY!!

BALUUUUT!!!

BALUUUUT!!!

When going to any country it is mandatory to try the local "strange food". In the Phils, this is Balut. A chicken egg that is about a day or two before hatching. You crack it open, salt and vinegar, and then throw it down the hatch. The Filipinos love it!

Sunrise

Sunrise

The most amazing part of the trip was coming back to the hotel during sunrise. The fisherman were preparing their boats to go out, and were kind enough to let me capture a few shots.

Local Gang

Local Gang

These guys were thrilled to have us hang out with them. They took us down a little path that lead to their local drinking hovel, and stayed up all night with us, drinking the local rum. Tanduay.

I am a traveler. I have been on the go since I was a young child. I have spent much of my life in one place or another. I lived in the same house from birth till 18, my parents still live there, it almost burnt down. I have set foot on many countries, but not many at one time. I read "on the road" when I was a junior in college, and have forever since been bit by that mischievous little bug that poisons you, so that you are never satisfied with where you are at, and always miss where...
