It's impossible to walk more than a few blocks in downtown Santiago without seeing at least a few people lined up at a street stall for a plastic cup of bi-layered beverage. This orange liquid, containing suspended orange blobs and a bottom layer of grain-like bits, is mote, and it's Chile's national drink. Consisting of dried peaches in juice, with grains of corn or wheat at the bottom, it's a refreshing choice for anyone strolling down el Paseo Ahumada on a warm summer's day!
