Old Believers' Cathedral

Despite its location in the center of the historic town of Vladimir, few people are aware of the existance of the beautiful Old Believers' Church, dating from 1644. So-called Old Believers separated from the Russian Orthodox Church in 1666 over a disagreement with reforms instituted by the Church hierarchy.

Krasnoyarsk Train Station

The Trans-Siberian makes several reasonably lengthy stops of twenty to thirty minutes at predetermined locations along its route. One of its lengthier stops is in the city of Krasnoyarsk.

Knyaginin Monastery

The Knyaginin Monastery is actually a convent (the Russian word monastyr is used for both monasteries and convents), founded in Vladimir in the 17th century.

Downtown Irkutsk

Located along the Angara River, Irkutsk is often called "the Paris of Siberia" because of its wide boulevards and its commitment to the arts.

Hermitage Museum

Located in the former Winter Palace of the Tsars, the State Hermitage Museum (Государственный Эрмитаж) contains over three-million works of art from across the globe. In addition to the fabulous selection of artwork housed in the Hermitage, one can take in the opulent architecture of Tsarist Russia.

Haein Temple (Haeinsa)

Located about an hour outside of Daegu, the Haein Temple was founded in 802. It is one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Korea, and is known for housing the Tripitaka Koreana, over 80,000 wooden blocks carved with Buddhist scriptures, dating from the 11th century.

"The nature"

Onviously "the nature" is hardly restricted to Vladimir, Russia. However, I lived in Vladimir for a year, during which time I was invited to spend a day "in the nature" (a Russlishism there, obviously) with friends numerous times.

Gorky Park

Gorky Park has been described as the Russian Disneyland, although anyone visiting the park with those expectations will be sorely disappointed. I would describe it as more of the Russian equivalent to a county fair.

Gatbawi

One of the most well known attractions on Mt. Palgong (Palgongsan) is Gatbawi: a giant stone Buddha atop one of the peaks, with a large stone “hat” on his head.

Donghwa Temple (Donghwasa)

This Buddhist temple, located on Palgong Mountain (Palgongsan), just north of Daegu, was founded in 493AD.
