The highway pit stop at Cathedral Grove

The highway pit stop at Cathedral Grove

Some highway.

Tree hugger!

Tree hugger!

Linus is trying out her Vancouver Island hippie style by hugging a tree ... one of the few in Cathedral Grove you can get your arms around. Cathedral Grove is right off the main "highway" running north-south on the island.

Rattlesnake pool

Rattlesnake pool

A hidden gem after a day of hiking. Yes, it's really as cold as it looks!

Splat!

Splat!

A student doing modified peacock pose, very well I might add.

Cathedral Trail

Cathedral Trail

On the steepest trail up to the peak of Mt. Katahdin, this old trail marker tells you how far you've gone from the relatively safe base station. At this point, the trail has mostly leveled out. You're probably at the 6th hour or so of your hike when you see this sign. Almost at the top, before you turn around again!
