A short 1.5 mile loop through a slot canyon and winding trails, the Catwalk near Glenwood, NM is the perfect getaway. The day we visited, we saw 5 other people the whole day. It is a breathtaking place.
From the moment you enter the property, you are greeted by name. The service is 100% first class and you have someone at all times tending to your every need. I have never experienced such fantastic service, food, and rooms as I have at the Phoenician. Well worth the $400+ per night!
Stringing up 80 strands of 15,000 to 100,000 firecrackers.
The view from the tower is beautiful, and you can see the Colorado River at the bottom of the canyon from it.
Lenny, my husband, on the cliff overlooking Horseshoe Bend.
Horseshoe Bend is located off of Highway 89, just South of Page, Arizona. A 3/4 mile hike up and down some sandy hills (some of it is deep) and you are on a very high cliff overlooking Horseshoe Bend!
Every year, one of Tucson's oldest barrios holds a "Fiesta Grande". This large party celebrates the Hispanic culture and raises money for the area. The festival features (among other things) a classic car show, carnival rides, arts and crafts, and a parade. Everywhere we walked, there was live mariachi music and bands, folklorico dancers dressed in customary vibrant costumes, and the incredible smell (and flavors) of spicy Mexican food. We enjoyed a plate full of carne asada, beans, rice, and salsa and a cold beer while watching the performances!
The Old Plank Road was build between 1916 and 1926, and was designed to fit together in the tongue and groove fashion. This road was the only road through the sand dunes during this time.
