These bike rickshaws were used as miniature school buses for a neighborhood school in Delhi. Before and after school kids packed in like sardines.
Directly across from my hotel in New Delhi was a small school and the dirt lot that functioned as the school yard during its recess. These young boys were very curious about the comings and goings of the hotel guests.
The tailor I was waiting for rode up on his bike, with this neat contraption for carrying his hot meal on the go.
Chickens awaiting purchase in a neighborhood in Mysore, India.
Searching for a restaurant in Mysore, India, all we seemed to find were recently opened cell phone stores. One of 5.5 million new mobile phone users in India each month, this man very proudly shows off his high-tech phone.
Going to school in Berkeley, California, I was used to people living on the streets. Calcutta redefined that for me. Here you would walk down the sidewalk, a foot away from a family's cooking fire. These people lived on the street and you felt like you were walking through their living room. It was intense. So much of life in India happens in public.
Wandering around the neighborhoods in Lisbon, I stumbled upon this church. It was a bright, hot afternoon, making the interior seem pitch black.
So many things about Lisbon reminded me of San Francisco. The Golden Gate replica bridge in the harbor helps, but it was the steep, hilly neighborhoods and the street cars that really did it. Good restaurants and interesting people abound.
The Plaza Mayor in Salamanca is my favorite in all of Spain. It's a massive courtyard surrounded on all sides with buildings like these. It's most appealing at night, when the lights show off the architecture.

I am aspiring to something more; I just haven't decided exactly what. I live in Portland, but I'm always looking for a way to see more of the world. I like to explore, write, read, take photographs, bake, listen to bluegrass and have picnics with red wine in plastic goblets. I love to learn new languages and read the international news.
