The sushi bar @ Tokyo Kitchen (Teppan Grill & Sushi) in Montclair, CA.
My family and I have been eating here my entire life; literally. That's 20+ years of recommendation.
Try the albacore sushi, fried rice (w/ pink shrimp sauce!) and teppan chicken with Kizakura saki! :)

Byblos Boy & Dog, Byblos, Lebanon.
A boy & his dog in the ancient souk of the historic port city of Byblos ("Jbeil," in Arabic), Lebanon.
Byblos was the major hub of the Phoenician Empire, and where the modern English word for "Bible" is derived from. Considered by many to be the oldest, continually inhabited city in the World.

Light A Candle.
A Lebanese Catholic lights a candle to pray at the tomb of St. Rafqa, Jrabta, Lebanon.
St. Rafqa was a Lebanese Maronite nun (1832 – 1914). On June 10, 2001, His Holiness, Pope John Paul II elevated her to the rank of Saint at a solemn Vatican ceremony. You can read about St. Rafqa's life, here:

Shot in-transit/on layover, heading to Beirut from Los Angeles. 24 hours total of travel time.
I was sick, exhausted, and freezing...The Huz left me to try and find some hot breakfast, I tried to doze off. When I awoke, after only a few minutes, I saw this picturesque-moment directly in front of me. It made the rest of my icky Paris layover worth it.

Just lounging in the breeze and warm Autumn sun. Glad to be in Lebanon, with my family. Glad to be starting the 1-month trip. Glad to done with the 24-hrs. in transit.

Lebanese Sheep Testicles.
My Lebanese husband's favorite; his family's recipe. ;)
2 lbs. Sheep Testicles; cleaned & prepared.
1/3 cup of Butter
3 oz. Garlic paste
1 T. White Pepper
1 T. Sweet Pepper
Salt
Lemon Juice
Sumac
Boil testicles for 2 mins. in unsalted water (*to remove smell). Once ready, sautée testicles with butter, garlic paste, white & sweet pepper--taking care not to burn--until no longer pink in the middle. At VERY END, add salt (*too early will cause the testicles to shrink), lemon juice and sumac to taste; cook for last 2 mins.
Garnish with lemons, rice, and/or green peppers (optional).
**All ingredients can be found in any Middle-Eastern, Arabic, Mediterranean and/or Eastern market.

Shannon was born in Atlanta, to a Southerner & a Yankee as the firstborn of their twins. She grew up in Los Angeles, where she still lives with her Jaouzeh. She is a Cultural Anthropology student, focusing on the Middle East. She is equally passionate about travel & photography--working towards a living incorporating both.
