Ybor City, Florida

Ybor City, Florida

Ybor (pronounced ee-bore) City was once known as the "Cigar Capital of the World" producing 250 million cigars a year. During that time (late 1800s to early 1900s) Many immigrants flooded the area but the Latin culture and language took root. Increased cigarette use and the Great Depression in the 1930s contributed to Ybor City's decline, but it has now experienced a renaissance. Stores, restaurants and bars have filled the old cigar factories while Tampa locals and tourists stroll the brick-paved streets, ride the street cars and yes, buy cigars. Ybor is definitely a place reborn!

I hoped the fountain would be deserted if we came back late at night but it was even more crowded. I tightened the crop to cut people out.

Coffee Talk

Coffee Talk

This was taken in April, 2007 at the Café Evropa in the Hotel Evropa, also known as The Grand Hotel Evropa, or, The Grand Hotel Šroubek in Prague's famous Venceslaus Square. Don't let the name fool you as is the case in much of Europe, cafés and bars are one in the same.

I am inspired by travel because it allows me to see the world differently. I hope one day to have the talent or luck to capture the soul of a place in a photo, but in the meantime I'm having fun with photography.
