New York City would not be the same without Coney Island's Mermaid Parade. While the community is being transformed by redevelopment, parade enthusiasts remain strong. Each year, thousands of people turn out to see the art parades colorful players including the newly crowned King Neptune and Queen Mermaid. The celebration continues well into the night with live music and burlesque at the Mermaid Parade Ball. This woman was part of the procession and, no doubt, worked her hula hoop the entire time.
