The Estancias were declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2000. They described it thus "The Jesuit Block in Córdoba contains the core buildings of the Jesuit system: the university, the church and residence of the Society of Jesus, and the college."

Estancia Caroya, the first to be set up by the Jesuits (in 1616), later served as an arms factory and was used by the Army of the North during the wars of national independence.
