Directly across from Tash Rabat is a small homestead, where the caretaker and his family live. If you wish to explore the interior of the caravanserai, you must pay 50soms (less than $2) for the caretaker to unlock the fortress. Additionally, his wife will cook you a delicious meal and serve you copious amounts of tea for a nominal fee.
