It takes a hair-raising, hour-long jeep ride in the pitch dark to get here. And the "comfort station" at the end of the road provides little comfort against the early morning chill. But when the sun starts to rise, revealing one of the most awe-inspiring sights anywhere in the world (and surely the most stunning in East Java's Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park), it makes the whole experience more than memorable.
