I definitely thought of Rene Magritte. Di Chirico comes to mind too. (The effect of the crisp shadows with the flatness of the brick wall is heightened by the pure blue sky above in juxtaposition with the depth that is framed by the puncture in the wall.) ...makes me think you'd enjoy the little island of Burano.
