Steering the Boat

I was lucky enought to ride with a boat racing team on the Mekong River in Laos near Vientiane. This team was practicing and I sat in the front with my cameras ready. Needless to say - it wasn't a dry seat.

You got lucky to actually seat and take pictures, I wasn't so lucky...the organisation for which I was working (Mekong River Commission) teamed up with a village in the suburb of Vientiane and was training for the race. They desperately needed some international staff to row with the villagers, so I really couldn't say no ^^ Training was really tough, harder than the actual race, I wish I could have seat in the boat to take picture like you did...it was an amazing experience though (I think we finished 2nd to last, but we got awarded the entertainment prize).

I forgot to mention I like the picture! Did you have a weatherproof camera? The week before I joined, my team's boat sank in the Mekong, which scared the hell out of me because when you see the colour of the river, the last thing you want to do is swim in it ^^
