This is one of twin embellishments on either side of the roof of the grand Vittoriano, a monument celbrating the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele. This large building c. 1911 houses several museums about the history of the unification of Rome. it is such a large white structure with approximately 26 columns along the front that it is fondly referred to by the Romans as the "Wedding Cake." The statue of Vittorio in the front is a 40 foot tall equestrienne statue.
We seemed to come across this juncture almost every day, as if all roads led to Vittoriano.
