During the winter, the Sacramento River floods the Yolo Basin and for months visitors are confused to find a "lake" between Sacramento, and neighboring college town, Davis. In summer, the 90 degree heat dries and cracks the land and, by July, the area is bursting with wild sunflowers. A brilliant sunset behind this forest of flowers was the perfect end to my day.
