South Beach is the glamour capital of Miami. Home to dozens of Streamline Moderne Art Deco hotels that were originally built during the 1930s, the area thrived as a destination for sunseekers until the 1970s, when it went into decline. Now South Beach has been reborn as a hotspot for gays and jet-setters. For proof, consider that this is where Giovanni Versace was shot in 1997, and it's also the namesake for the famous South Beach Diet. Today the area is booming, and many of the old hotels have been lavishly renovated.
