Above the clouds on Mt. Kinnabalu.
Mount Kinabalu the highest mountain range in South East Asia, just over 4000 metres, located on the island of Borneo, Malaysia. It is at the base of a National Park where you can stay in dormitories before heading out on the two day climb to the summit at Lowe's Peak. Climbing to the Laban Rata restpoint takes place on the first day with a guide that you must organise at the park headquarters, and then to see the sunrise over the town of Kinabalu you can start the ascent to the peak at 2.00-3.00am and climb up the steep rock with the aid of ropes and torchlights. While the climb is 99% uphill, the otherworldly experience of being at the summit is like none other, and the good news is you don't have to be an experienced climber to do it, just being healthy and reasonably fit is enough.
