Boulangerie

Boulangerie

a small old boulangerie located in Lacoste

About this place:

This small town in southern France is absolutely worth the visit. The architecture is mainly from the 1500's and is typical of a Provencial town. Small cafes, a couple churches, a school, and a couple tiny shops are within this town. And old castle remains on the top of the hill, now owned by Pierre Cardin. Savannah College of Art and Design hosts an abroad program in this town offering classes in painting, photography, printmaking, art history and more. For a taste of Provencial life, this town is worth the visit. You cannot get to this location by train or bus however. Lacoste is fairly remote and you would have to take a train to Avignon, then a bus to Lumierre, then either walk to Lacoste or call a cab, if you can find one. There is only one cab designated for this area, who often drives rich American actors to their French homes, including Johnny Depp and his family.

I was lucky enough to spend 2 months in Lacoste. Living the French lifestyle, experiencing the Provencial atmosphere was a great experience. I woke up every morning to sunlight coming in my 16th century windows, giving me a wonderful view of the valley below and small towns on hillsides. One of my favorite parts of this area was the old chateau. I would walk to the top of the hill beyond the old castle and through some shrubs until I reached a quiet little spot on the rocks. We would sit with a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
