Silver Lake

Silver Lake

The reservoir... behind bars.

About this place:

Silver Lake is neither silver, nor is it a lake. It's a man-made reservoir on the East side of Los Angeles with a gigantic fence around it. The surrounding neighborhood is called Silver Lake as well - an artsy enclave in the midst of the big city sprawl.

Silver Lake is a relatively diverse and thriving artistic community in Los Angeles. It is located east of Hollywood and east of Los Feliz, two other eclectic Los Angeles communities. Silver Lake is named after the man-made reservoir which sits behind a fence in the center of the enclave. The reservoir is named after Herman Silver, a member of the first Board of Water Commissioners of The City of Los Angeles. Today it provides drinking water for communities in South LA, but I've heard rumors that it will be decommissioned soon and used soley as a recreation area.
