About this place:

Tripoli ("Ṭrāblos," in Arabic) is the second-largest city and second-largest port in Lebanon, with approximately 500,000 inhabitants, mainly Sunni Muslims, along with small communities of Christians and Alawite Muslims. Tripoli is located 85 km north of the capital, Beirut.

Tripoli borders the city of El Mina which is the port outlet of Tripoli district. The two cities are geographically conjoined to form the Greater Tripoli.

In ancient times, Tripoli was the center of a Phoenician confederation which included Tyre, Sidon and Arados, hence the name Tripoli, from the Greek meaning "Triple City".

My Lebanese Baba (father-in-law) & husband, and I journeyed to the souk in Tripoli where they have a HUGE selection of Abaya (long, Middle Eastern robes) shops with much better prices than the souks in Beirut or Byblos (Jbeil). I ended up buying two long Abayas of OUTSTANDING fabric, craftsmanship & embroidery...for the grand total of about $50.00.

Some tips: Females should cover/veil themselves out of respect to the large Muslim community (and for safety reasons). HAGGLE THE PRICE...politely. Bring Hand Sanitizing Gel & Toilet Paper if you think you'll need the restroom...'nuff said. ;)
