The Chumash Indians were the first to call Malibu home. Well, they actually called it "Humaliwo", which if you are to believe wikipedia means "the surf sounds loudly". The surf does still sound loudly here, but you are most likely to hear it as a tourist. Beachfront lots sized at a few thousand square feet sell for tens of millions of dollars, while rent for a nice house can put you back over $20,000 a month! It's probably for the best though - while beautiful, Malibu is prone to be struck by natural disasters. I wonder how you say "the fire burns brightly" in Chumash?
