Place to shop: Egyptian Bazaar, Istanbul, Turkey

Simit! Simit!

Simit! Simit!

On every street, every corner you can get fresh crunchy simit, sesame seed rings. This man carries a hundred of them and sells them on the Uzunçarsi Caddesi ("Longmarket Street") that connects the higher positioned Covered Bazaar (Grand Bazaar) with Istanbul's Egyptian Bazaar (Spice Market).

About this place:

Just off the famous Galata bridge in the Eminönü neighboordhoud a big and old market-hall stands in front of you, Istanbul's Egyptian Bazaar. This spice market was built in 1664 and is filled with exotic fragrances such as spices, dried fruits, nuts and seeds, lokum (Turkish Delight). Around the Bazaar you find many more stalls, with some shoppingroads going up leading to the Covered Bazaar (Grand Bazaar).
