We sometimes came surfing here as teenagers. A dangerous beach, infamous for its rips and all too frequent drownings. No surf lifesavers on duty here. We often just watched, with a range of excuses for not getting our boards wet. The swell, the wind and the cold roll in over the Southern Ocean all the way from Antarctica. Now it's in the Newland Head Conservation Park in South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula and part of the Heysen Trail, a walking trail that extends 1,200 Km from the southern tip of the peninsula to the Flinders Ranges, in outback Australia.
