Blue Mosque
The famous blue mosque has been under reconstruction since the beginnings of the 20th century after being almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in the 1700's. The structure is now rehabilitated to its full splendor, and restoration of blue tiles inside is still under work.

The "blue mosque" is located in Tabriz, north-western Iran. It was built in 1465, during the reign of Sultan Y‘aqub ibn Uzun Hassan, from the Ak Koyunlu tribe. It was built by architect Nimatullah ibn Mohammad Bavvab, architect of Prince Jahan Shah Torkman Salimi
Since the beginning of the XXth century, the mosque has been under restoration now and then. The building is now completely rebuilt, and work is in progress for the ceramics inside. The name of the mosque come from ceramics used on the walls, with a dominant blue tint. The structure and its blue tiles used in the decoration inside and outside made it be known as the Turquoise of Islam.
