Miami may be the Capital of Latin America, but it's not hard to find remnants of its beginnings in the American South. The best of these may be Shorty's BBQ, opened in the 1950s by an enterprising Georgia native looking for his own piece of the Florida promised land. The wood picnic tables inside have been packed ever since, with patrons elbow to elbow over enormous plates of mouth watering spareribs and overflowing brisket sandwiches. Vegetarians beware.
