Located on the main highway from the Pyrenees to Barcelona and the Costa Brava at the confluence of two rivers, Girona has a well preserved medieval city center with remnants of its Roman and Arab past. Long, tree-shaded walks along the rivers offer a respite from culture and the nearby beach crowds.
