This is one of the two large dinosaurs visible from the road in Cabazon, California. The companion to this brontosaurus is a T-Rex (also posted).
Cabazon, California is home to "The World's Largest Dinosours." They can be found just off of California Highway 10 on the way to Palm Springs. The dinosaurs include a T-Rex ("Mr. Rex") and an Apatosaurus ("Dinny"). The are made of concrete and created by sculptor and portrait artist Claude K. Bell to help promote his nearby restaurant The Wheel In Diner. Perhaps you may remember the dinosaurs from the movie, "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" or "The Wizard," and had a brief appearance in the Tears for Fears' music video of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."
Inside Dinny you will find a gift store with many unique roadside gifts to find. Their website suggests that Mr. Rex will be open so you can catch the view from his teeth. I have not had the pleasure so stay tuned.
The site is behind the Wheel In Diner and next to a few other eateries and gas stations, so it is a great place to rest up and fill up when driving from the Los Angeles area to the Palm Springs area.
