The North Dakota Badlands is a great place for many things. In the South Unit you can catch the famous Medora musical, go shopping in their old time stores, or take a day hike through the Painted Canyon. The North unit, however, is a bit less civilized. It offers anywhere from guided nature hikes to multiple day backpacking trips in the wild. For the truly ambitious, there is the Maah Daah Hey Trail that connect the two units. It's 125 miles of beauty that can be tackled on foot, bike, or even horseback.
