This Vietnamese woman was cooking a meal at a bus station in Chau Doc, in the Mekong Delta. When I asked if I could take her photograph she consented, and then, as she held up her half-peeled boiled egg, she broke out in a type of laughter so common in rural places throughout Southeast Asia.
Located in the Mekong Delta close to the Cambodian border, this bustling town is a transit point for many travelers entering and exiting Cambodia, whether by boat or land. Fish farm dot the waterways and the Cham Muslim community have built several mosques in the area. One of the best things about Chau Doc is the countryside surrounding it, easily explored by motorbike.
