Just outside the entrance to the Medieval Cite there is a carousel and a cemetery. When I visited Carcassonne in 2000 the old Carousel which had been there for many years had burnt down and a smaller one stood in its place.
This is by far, the most magical city I've visited in southern france. I'm speaking of "old Carcassonne" which is a walled, medieval city. When you walk across the draw bridge, through huge stone archways, you feel you're actually stepping into another time. The place is alive with shops, cafes and there is even a jousting ring. For those who can spare the expense, there are a couple of 5 star hotels within the walls of the city which from the outside, looked like a dream.
