The beach at night

The beach at night

As all beaches are public in the Dominican Republic, the resorts that line the beach must guard against uninvited guests from entering their property on the water side. At our resort, they lit up the resort property line with bright lights that created a unique view of the trees.

As all beaches are public in the Dominican Republic, the resorts that line the beach must guard against uninvited guests from entering their property on the water side. At our resort, they lit up the resort property line with bright lights that created a unique view of the trees. Each night a handful of security guards patrol this area allowing resort guests to pass freely and encouraging others to simply move along.

Walking along a quiet beach on the north shore of the Dominican Republic I came across a father and his two boys fishing. Having taken the picture in a rushed and haphazard fashion, the result was wonderful and unexpected. While the reflection of the trio in the water may look planned it was purely accidental and reinforced for me that finding the right moment can be just as much luck as skill.
