This lighthouse that is located on Long Beach Island in NJ is the second tallest lighthouse in the United States at 165 feet above sea level. It was designed by George G. Meade, and was built in 1856, to replace another lighthouse that had fallen into the ocean. It was in use until 1944.
The lighthouse itself is open to the public and you can go to the top if you can conquer the spiral staircase. You can even get a certificate proving you made it to the top for a one dollar donation in the museum.
There are also trails that go around the beach and sand dunes that show how a coastal forest is created and can survive with many species of trees that can do well in the sandy soil and survive the salty sea spray.
There are also many opportunities for birdwatching and photographing in the area surrounding the lighthouse itself.
Many people also go there to fish off a concrete pier that extends past the lighthouse and down the beach. There aren't many benches on the pier but it's not a long walk to the end.
