Place to see: Roy's Motel and Cafe, Amboy, California, United States

Amboy cafe

Amboy cafe

lots to photograph in this little and mostly deserted desert town.

About this place:

A famous stop on old route 66 in Amboy. The town became nearly abandoned in the early 1970's when Interstate 40 opened to the north. (the town in the Pixar movie "Cars" was based on Amboy.) Amboy is cinematic, rundown, and extremely photogenic, in fact it's been used in a number of movies and commercials. The town is currently owned by a wealthy investor and route 66 enthusiast, though in the past the whole town was owned mostly by one family.

I love vintage signs. It is what makes a trip to Barstow, CA worth it.
