Livorno is a small port city on the Ligurian Sea on the west coast of Italy’s Tuscany region. This picturesque place along the ocean has some notable architecture as well as districts of quaint bridges and canals. It also has a fortified seawall that protects the harbor. Livorno came into its own when the harbor of nearby Pisa silted in. Today it has one of the largest container ports in Italy and one of the most important ports in the entire Mediterranean.
