Mining Buildings

Mining Buildings

Abadoned mining buildings near Victor, Colorado.

About this place:

Victor, Colorado is a mining town of past and present. Located on the southwest side of Pikes Peak and near Cripple Creek, it is home to one of the largest gold deposits in the world. Like Cripple Creek, Victor boomed during the gold rush of the 1890s, and most of the buildings in the town are from that era. There is a wonderful trail right outside of Victor where one can see dilapidated, abandoned mining buildings, many of which seem to defy gravity by standing at all.

Wandering through the streets of this old mountain, mining town, I saw few other people. The people I did see were mostly miners who didn't seem too happy to see a fresh scrubbed city girl like myself. One even had a hook for a hand. I explored an antique store, a general store with canned items that looked like they had been there since the town's gold rush boom in the 1890s. Along the Mining District trail right outside of town, I discovered a ghost town of abandoned mining buildings that seemed to defy gravity by standing.
